With time, her family began pressuring her to get married, and the pressure kept increasing. She eventually told them that if the pressure did not stop, she would leave home. The family reacted harshly and, as punishment, confined her to a room. During the three months of isolation, her mental health deteriorated severely. One day, Aasma managed to leave the house. She had only a mobile phone, a purse, and a black shawl. With nowhere to go, she decided the best option was to travel to Lahore. Upon arriving, a police inspector saw her on the street, listened to her story, and connected her with Shauoor Welfare Foundation. Thus began her journey with the organization. Volunteers took her to various institutions, and eventually she was given accommodation in a hostel. The organization formally took responsibility for her care, and years passed this way. One day, due to mental distress, she suddenly reached Pattoki. Late at night, a call came from a rural dispensary informing the team that a woman had been brought in critical condition, and the only contact number with her was theirs. Deeply concerned, the team immediately set out. The silence of the road and the darkness seemed to reflect Aasma’s life — darkness everywhere, with a single light of hope that she saw in the form of support. Upon reaching the dispensary, the doctor delivered the news no one was ready to hear: Aasma had passed away, leaving behind all her pain and trials. In the mortuary, when the white sheet was lifted, the same black shawl stood out — the symbol of her identity. When Dr. Shahida Noumani held Aasma’s hand, it felt as if that cold hand was still calling for help, holding onto hope even in its final moments. In deep sorrow, her brother was contacted, but he initially refused to come. He was reminded that Aasma was the daughter of the same home once filled with her laughter and memories. After much persuasion, he agreed, and Aasma was laid to rest forever. Thus ended the story of a young woman whose life passed between dreams, struggle, and loneliness.
