Far from Home, Still Jobless

On Thursday, First May – International Labor Day, the SHAUOOR Welfare Foundation team visited a well-known labor point near Data Darbar, Lahore, where workers on daily wages sit in the scorching sun, waiting for work—often in vain.

While many rest at home on this holiday meant to honor laborers, these workers are on the streets, still in search of a chance to earn.   One of the many faces we met was Saeed Akhtar, a migrant and jobless laborer, fighting not just poverty—but despair. With tears in his eyes, he shared how he sleeps at Data Darbar, eats from charity meals, and spends his days under the burning sun, hoping to find work to support his blind wife and four young daughters back home in Multan.   Saeed doesn’t want charity—he wants dignity. He requested just one thing: a simple fruit cart, so he can work near his home and stay with his daughters. His only wish: to earn enough to feed his children and live a life of self-respect.   SHAUOOR Welfare Foundation believes in turning pain into purpose. Our mission is to bring stories like Saeed’s to you, so that together, we can help change lives—one worker at a time. Let’s stand with those who build our world but sleep hungry. Be the reason someone sleeps with a full stomach tonight.
